A SUVs have overtaken all other vehicle segments in the past decade, it is easy to overlook the spacious and capable midsize sedan. Offering practicality, better fuel economy, and tons of passenger space, they are a great value for individuals or families who want a comfortable ride without the initial or fuel cost of an SUV. Two popular options in the midsize sedan class are the classy and well-built 2020 Hyundai Sonata and 2020 Honda Accord.
2020 Hyundai Sonata
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata enters the market with a complete redesign. From updated exterior styling with striking modern accents to an interior that is intuitively laid out and focused on driver convenience, there is nothing the Sonata cannot provide.
Starting at $27,000, the 2020 Hyundai Sonata comes in four different model variations, in addition to coming with a standard petrol or optional hybrid engine. The base model features a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that provides fuel economy of 8.8 L/100 km in the city and 6.4 L/100 km on the highway, as well as driver-assist features such as adaptive cruise control with traffic stop and go, lane following assist, and forward collision-avoidance assist.
Technology features include a touchscreen infotainment system, Bluetooth, smartphone integration, and more. In terms of space, there is a magnificent 2,956 litres of space in the passenger compartment and 453 litres of capacity in the trunk.
2020 Honda Accord
Also well-designed and similarly appointed, the 2020 Honda Accord comes in five different model variations and two engine options (petrol or hybrid). It costs several thousand dollars more than the Sonata, starting at $30,490, but it does offer slightly better fuel economy (7.9 L/100km city and 6.3 L/100km highway), a turbocharged 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine, and a few more driver-assist features, such as adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition.
Technology features include heated front seats, a rearview camera, 7-inch touchscreen, and smartphone integration. Its space is slightly more than the Sonata (473 litres of cargo capacity and 2,990 litres of passenger volume).
